Europe’s first commercial delivery drone unveiled

first commercial delivery drone

It will appear on the roads in the spring of 2023

Startup Loxo unveiled Europe’s first commercial drone for last mile delivery. Such cars will appear on the roads of Switzerland in the spring of 2023, and then they want to be certified in Germany and the UK. The autonomous shuttle is easily integrated into the IT infrastructure of the retailer, offers a transformable cargo compartment and, in terms of dimensions, fits perfectly into the traffic of the Old World.

Swiss startup Loxo seems to have found a solution to the last mile delivery problem. His cargo drone, thanks to the electric drive, is less dangerous for the environment; fits perfectly into European traffic; and can also be fully integrated into the IT infrastructure of a retailer or logistics company.

Commercial use of the shuttles will begin in the spring of 2023. They are built on a duralumin skateboard platform, equipped with four hub electric motors and travel up to 110 kilometers without recharging. Each drone is capable of simultaneously delivering 64 parcels with a total weight of 320 kilograms. Moreover, the minimum loading height of 40 centimeters facilitates access to the compartment for people in wheelchairs.

Loxo has other strengths as well. First, it is the fastest drone in Switzerland. Secondly, instead of sensors with a rotating part, the machine uses a special combination of radar, lidar, sonar, camera and computational algorithm. This gives a 360-degree view of both the shuttle itself and the operator looking after it.

The drone compartment can be transformed for specific tasks. The car will be equipped with a touch screen and two emergency stop buttons, which will come in handy in case of an emergency. The start of sales is scheduled for next year. If none of the competitors hurry up, Loxo will become the first company to launch commercial cargo drones not only in Switzerland but throughout Europe.
