Scania unveils super charger for electric trucks
A prototype of a universal electric charging station of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) standard, with a capacity of 1 MW or more, was presented at the IAA Transportation exhibition.
The characteristics of the MCS make it possible to quickly, within 45 minutes, charge the batteries of the main electric trucks up to 100 percent level. The data exchange interface is automated here using the Vehicle to Everything (V2X) multi-level communication protocols that connect the car with other vehicles, people and network roadside infrastructure.
The MCS standard is provided not only for wheeled vehicles, but also for electric aircraft. The technology used to operate this standard assumes the use of only one cable that can withstand voltages up to 1500 V at a maximum current of 3000 A – that is, theoretically we are talking about power up to 4.5 MW.
This charging station is intended primarily for European customers who want to convert their fleets to sustainable battery trucks (BEVs) on a large scale. In 2024, a megawatt-class charging station, supported by the global CharIN alliance, will enter the consumer market.
