The camping trailers from Colorado Teardrops come equipped with a battery pack that can provide up to 38 kWh of power
Many potential electric vehicle buyers have concerns about the impact of towing on their vehicle’s range. However, Colorado Teardrops aims to ease these concerns with their new line of electrified camping trailers. These trailers are designed to assist both EV and non-EV owners with range extension, making them an attractive option for those who want to venture further off the beaten path.
Renowned for their classic teardrop-shaped camping trailers, Colorado Teardrops has revealed plans to launch two new models of their innovative patent-pending design. In addition to comfortable sleeping quarters and essential camping equipment, these trailers will offer either 19 or 38 kWh of battery capacity to power various onboard features.
The battery power provided by the camping trailers is not just beneficial for electric vehicle owners who want to venture further on their camping trips. Colorado Teardrops emphasizes that their trailers are also suitable for traditional vehicle owners, who can benefit from the extended power supply as well.
One of the primary benefits of the battery-powered camping trailers is the ability to power additional appliances during camping trips. With the extra energy supply, campers can use electric lights, coolers, and other small devices for longer periods and venture further into remote areas.
The advantages of the camping trailers’ battery power extend beyond the woods and into the home. Colorado Teardrops boasts that their larger camper, equipped with 38 kWh of battery power, can provide power to an average U.S. home for more than 24 hours during an outage, offering a reliable backup energy source.
In normal circumstances, the battery power of the camping trailers works much like Tesla’s Powerwall, storing solar power for later use and providing an estimated 92% energy savings. It also has the ability to charge during off-peak hours and supplement a home’s power during peak hours, similar to other home battery systems available.
According to Colorado Teardrops, connecting their camping trailers as a home battery system qualifies for the Residential Clean Energy Tax Credit, which offers up to 30% of the battery system’s cost as a credit.
Colorado Teardrops has not disclosed the prices of their two camping trailer models yet. However, the manufacturer states that they have selected lithium iron phosphate batteries instead of the lithium-ion batteries commonly used in cars. Besides being less costly to produce, the cell chemistry of these batteries is safer, according to Colorado Teardrops.
Dean Wiltshire, owner of Colorado Teardrops, stated that customer safety is their top priority, followed by their product’s sustainability and contribution towards reducing greenhouse gases with efficient energy solutions. He emphasized that environmental stewardship and sustainability have been at the core of their values, and the introduction of these battery-powered camping trailers is a natural extension of their commitment to these principles.
