Last year, TIP, DLG and Unilever started a field test with four refrigerated trailers equipped with an electrically driven cooling machine.
The aim was to see whether such machines can also hold a load at minus 25 degrees. For the time being, things are going well, says TIP.
In theory, 20 to 25 tons of CO2 emissions per trailer can be avoided on an annual basis. The fuel saving is almost entirely equal to the emission avoidance. Still, it seemed sensible to further improve two machines, now that we have entered the warm season. The other two are also being improved. This and the coming months, therefore, at summer temperatures, keep the charge at minus 25 with pure green energy. The intention is to see with end customer Unilever, for which TIP customer DLG drives, whether and to what extent this type of trailer cooling will then become the standard for Unilever, and possibly its competitors.
